Operation on Lankan maid successful

The operation to remove 18 nails and pins inserted into a Lankan maid from Matara who had been tortured while serving in Saudi Arabia has been successfully completed, said Kamburupitiya Government Hospital sources. It is reported that 18 nails and pins were extracted from the body which contained a total of 23 nails and pins. Out of the extracted 13 are reported to be 2 inch nails and the rest pins. The surgeons who conducted the operation today have remained 5 nails as they pose no threat to the woman. Removing the remaining nails would danger the life of the woman in concern and produce further complications.

INDIAN TRAVELING TO JAFFNA ARRESTED

A person of Indian Nationality traveling towards Jaffna without appropriate permission from the Ministry of Defense has been arrested by Police officers at the Omantha security checkpoint. According to the Police Spokesman Prishantha Jayakody the individual in question was traveling in a CTB bus heading to Jaffna. Following the arrest he was taken to the Vavuniya Court where it was ordered that he be kept in remand until August 10.
