Colombo High Court refuses bail to Kotelawala

Deputy Solicitor General Sarath Jayamanne, submitting objections to the bail application, told court that there is strong evidence to show that Kotelawala is involved in financial misappropriation, along with others at the failed Golden Key Credit Co and that he is a suspect in this case at the Mount Lavinia Magistrate’s Court.

CCD to question Dayasiri over Ganganath’s abduction?

UNP’s Kurunegala district Parliamentarian Dayasiri Jayasekara has been summoned to the Colombo Crime Division to record a statement in connection with the abduction of Prof. Dhammika Ganganath Dissanayake.   According to reports reaching Mr. Jayasekara has been asked to present himself at the CCD at 1.00 pm today (March 21). But he said that CCD officials had told him around three days ago that they would call over at his home at 11.00 am today to record a statement. However, they had not arrived at his residence as promised, and when he had inquired from the CCD, he has been asked to go to its office.   Reports say that Dayasiri Jayasekara had sent a text message to Prof. Dissanayake’s mobile phone a short while before his kidnapping. Prof. Dissanayake was freed the day after his abduction by a group of persons who had questioned him for a few hours, according him.

Australia thanks Sri Lanka for safe return of cricket officials

Australia has thanked Sri Lanka for facilitating the safe return of three Australian members of the Sri Lanka national cricket team following the terror attack in Pakistan, the Foreign Affairs Ministry said Saturday. The three Australians in Sri Lanka squad are head coach Trevor Bayliss, the assistant coach and the physiotherapist. The Australian Minister for Foreign Affairs, Stephen Smith has expressed his government’s appreciation to his Sri Lankan counterpart Rohitha Bogollagama during a special telephone conversation last afternoon. The Australian Minister had expressed his sympathy and concern for the members of the cricket team and their families who were distressed by the incident on March 03, the Foreign Affairs Ministry said in a media release.
