Over a lakh of polling cards cancelled

ElectionsCommissioner Dayananda Dissanayake has decided to cancel over 100,000 polling cards issued in excess for the upcoming Western Provincial Council election.

The Elections Secretariat said the main reason for the cancellation was that several polling cards have been issued for the same person in different areas as some people have registered as voters at various addresses.

The main opposition, United National Party parliamentarian Ravi Karunanayaka and Sri Lanka Muslim Congress leader Rauf Hakeem complained to the Commissioner over those polling cards.

The Election Secretariat said that they have cancelled a total number of 133,000 polling cards issued in excess.
