Police nab chain-snatching gang in Hikkaduwa


The Hikkaduwa Police has managed to apprehend an elusive group of gold chain-snatchers. According to the police the group comprises of five individuals all between the ages of 19 and 23 and also includes an army deserter.


15 gold chains, two motorbikes and a three wheeler were found in possession of the arrested persons and had been taken into police custody. Two razor-sharp knives, allegedly used to scare their victims before snatching the chains, were also recovered by police.

NISHANTHA MUTHUHETTIGAMA ARRESTED

Nishantha Muthuhettigama has been arrested by a special police team in Yakkalamulla, Galle moments ago, Senior DIG Southern Province Kingsley Ekanayaka told Ada Derana. Ekanayaka told Ada Derana earlier that a special police team was deployed to arrest SPC member Nishantha Muthuhettigama over an arrest warrant. The arrest warrant is regarding the incident where he allegedly threatened the Galle District Secretary.
