POLLS FOR REMAINING LG BODIES ON JULY 23 – ELECTIONS DEPT

Elections for the remaining 67 Local Government bodies will be held on July 23, Elections Department told Ada Derana a short while ago. In the previously held 234 LG bodies the United People’s Freedom Alliance secured victory in 205 bodies.

Illankai Tamil Arasu Katchchi (ITAK) came in second winning 12 while the United National Party (UNP) managed to secure 09 LG bodies. The Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) won 04, National Congress 02, the Up-Country People’s Front (UPF) 01 while an Independent Group secured 01 LG body.

NISHANTHA MUTHUHETTIGAMA ARRESTED

Nishantha Muthuhettigama has been arrested by a special police team in Yakkalamulla, Galle moments ago, Senior DIG Southern Province Kingsley Ekanayaka told Ada Derana. Ekanayaka told Ada Derana earlier that a special police team was deployed to arrest SPC member Nishantha Muthuhettigama over an arrest warrant. The arrest warrant is regarding the incident where he allegedly threatened the Galle District Secretary.
