Burdening the public even more by increasing bus fares is not what the government should do in the prevailing public transport issue, the JVP General Secretary Tilvin Silva says.
“The government has to accept that the SLTB service as well as private bus operators are facing an immense dilemma.”
The Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) is bankrupt due to the government seeking cheap political gains, he said during a press conference today (June 26) and added that, private bus owners have also had to face problems due to increasing fuel prices and spare parts prices.
What the government should do is provide fuel and other concessions to private bus operators and thereby resolving the issue, the JVPer pointed out.
He further added that a transport service high in quality can be established through proper planning and by eradicating wastage and corruption in the government.
