The 41 Sri Lankan labourers in Iraq will be brought back to the country within the next two weeks, the Ministry of External Affairs stated.
The labourers who left to Iraq seeking employment were stranded in the country without wages for the last few years. Following a protest staged by the labourers, the Ministry of External Affairs and the Iraq government took measures to bring them back to Sri Lanka.
Five of the labourers were brought back this week and the rest of the 41 will be brought back within the next two weeks while the government of Iraq will pay a sum of Rs.350,000 to them.
