Dr Mahinda Balasuriya, presently Sri Lanka’s ambassador to Brazil, will be a visiting fellow in the M S University of Baroda in the next academic year to conduct research on South Asia’s national and security issues.
He would also deliver lectures for students and teachers on threat of terrorism and counter-terrorism strategies, security issues of South Asia and foreign policy of Sri Lanka, among other topics, a spokesman of Maharaja Sayajirao University said.
Dr Balasuriya is an alumnus of the M S University from the 1976 batch, he said. He is an eminent South Asian expert on issues of terrorism, national security and counter-terrorism strategies.
As a senior police officer in-charge of terrorism-affected areas of northern and eastern Sri Lanka, Balasuriya successfully planned and executed important counter-terrorism assignments to overcome the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE). (PTI)
